daffodils blooming
grandmother .died. last week
my mama .forgets.
father .left. our farm
chasing the streetlights
neglects my brother’s letters
II.
i .hide. beneath blankets,
away from brother’s pills and poison.
he laughs at my flinches.
i beg him to .stop.
.slapped. with the psalms of secrets
i sob in the bathtub
III.
christmas eve supper
nana naps with eyes open
.slipping from slumber
born to bear .burden.
she walks barefoot to breakfast
coat in the closet
drool on his stubble
grandfather .died. in his sleep
put us all to bed.
