Devon Henry: March 2020 Poet of the Month
near-death
my captor kills me on a bus, first/ living room/
in my own bed/ the back of a mint green toyota
camry/ at a house party in reseda/ in front of all
our friends/ i come back every time
when i escape i cut my hair and change my
name/ he still finds me/ in dreams/ wearing
faces i have loved/ i wake up sobbing and feel
my back for my wings/ still here, still here/ i’m
still here
