Darren C. Demaree: January 2016 Poet of the Month
EMILY AS BLOOD ALL OVER THE PLACE
I didn’t pay attention
& I didn’t care
about the silence.
We were moving
just fine
& each tiny clump
of skin we lost
was lost only
because we stared
only at the whole
throbbing.
There was so much
byproduct
& some of that
real blood
was too weak
to work through
the sheets anyway.
When I slid my hand
flush to the fabric, it,
again, left us like waves.
